Scope and Content

Thomas Merton writes to the renowned lyricist Ira Gershwin to thank him for sending some recordings to him. The connection between Merton and Gershwin came through Fr. Matthew McGunigle, O.C.S.O. (aka, Doc McGonigle), who before becoming a Trappist at Gethsemani Abbey knew Gershwin in Hollywood.

Biography

Ira Gershwin was an American lyricist and brother of composer George Gershwin.
