Scope and Content
Keith Wilson gave William Witherup a copy of Monks Pond and recommended him send Merton some of his poems. His poems are included in the last volume of Monks Pond along with his translations of Enrique Lihn, a Chilean poet in exile.
Biography
William Witherup is a poet, playwright and performance artist. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up in Richland, Washington. He writes to Merton from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and living in a cabin in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. He has published a number of volumes of poetry.
