Scope and Content
Fr. Riccardo Lombardi asks Merton's feedback and participation in response to a movement for greater dialog between the Catholic Church and the wider world based on the concept of the Mystical Body of Christ, a concept often touched upon by Merton and emphasized in Pope Pius XII's encyclical Mystici Corporis. Merton provides some feedback and asks some questions. He mentions his desire both to address wider problems in the world in his writings and to found a new monastic foundation in South America, which would be both contemplative but also an artistic and intellectual center for the area.
Biography
Fr. Riccardo Lombardi was a Jesuit priest writing on behalf of the Centro Internationale Pio XII per un Mondo Migliore in Rome, Italy.
