Scope and Content
Dan Shay and others were planning a "peace walk" from St. Louis to the east coast, travel to Italy and walk to Rome, for a "Council of Peace" to guide Catholics on war and peace-related issues, especially nuclear war. Merton provides suggestions about his trip to Europe and thoughts about their message.
Biography
In 1962, Dan Shay was a 34-year-old carpenter's apprentice, a member of a number of Catholic organizations, and a conscientious objector from St. Louis, Missouri.
