1967/07/29 TALSto MertonThree Thomas Merton Books have been in my library for many years, possibly as far back as the year book attacking Catholicism by Avro Manhattan, Catholic Power Today - product of Lyle Stuart / asks Merton to denounce the book and refute the "accumulation of near-truths, half-truths, non-truths, lies and calumny" / Collins tells about his own background and how he came to Iowa from New York
1967/08/04 TL[c]from MertonThanks for your letter. I will be brief in replying because I have much more correspondence than I Merton has not heard of Avro Manhattan's book - does not want to stoop to the level of such an angry book by an angry response and to give it "free publicity" in doing so - Merton feels he can make better contributions with other writings
