Scope and Content
Merton writes to a Fr. Halligan (likely Fr. Nicholas Halligan), a Dominican priest who had sent Merton an article from The Thomist from January 1949 by Fr. John Daniel Fearon, O.P. which criticized Merton's article "Active and Contemplative Orders" from the December 5, 1947 edition of Commonweal. Two carbon copies of the letter were found among records from Gethsemani Abbey. It is unclear whether Merton sent this letter.
