Biographical Note:
Owen Merton was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. He
studied in London and Paris from 1906 onward, and was elected a Member of
the RBA in 1910. From 1911 to 1914, he was a student of Mr. P. Tudor-Hart,
to whose teaching Mr. Merton wishes to acknowledge his great indebtedness.
Mr. Merton last exhibited in London in 1913, at the New English Art Club,
and in 1914 at the International Exhibition. Since 1918, he has shown his
pictures mostly in New York, at the Daniel Gallery, the Ferargil Gallery,
the Junior Art Patrons of America, Knoedlers, etc., etc. Two of his water-
colours are in the National Gallery of New Zealand at Wellington, and in
1924 a large water-colour was bought by the Brooklyn Museum, New York.
