QuotationSt. John of the Cross' Cautions are my food for this retreat and there couldn't be anything better as a preparation for vows. Also, I realize more and more that the great works of St. John of the Cross are not entirely comprehensible unless one also knows the Cautions, Maxims, Letters, and anecdotes about his life. For instance what he says about directors in The Living Flame must be qualified by what he says on Superiors in the Cautions.
