There is one letter from Merton to Sr. Rita Maury in which he seems to be responding to her comparison of the writing styles of Merton to Henry David Thoreau. Merton expresses his appreciation of Thoreau although he dismisses the idea that he matches Thoreau's style.
Sr. Rita Maury, who seems to have formerly used the name in religion of Sr. Frances Therese, was a Sister of St. Joseph writing from Milford, Massachusetts.
