Pierre Dommerques compiled a book of quotes from and interviews with American writers called Les U.S.A. à la recherche de leur identité and wanted permission to use Merton's article on Flannery O'Connor in lieu of a statement from the deceased writer. Merton grants this permission.
Pierre Dommerques was an Assistant Professor at the Sorbonne in the Institute of English and American Studies at the time of corresponding with Merton.
