Perhaps there is much wrong with this play, but to me it reads well anyway and I like it. A medieval morality play, hence inevitably naive, rambunctious, untidy, and probably not as controlled as he hoped. I suppose one must overlook faults in it - musical comedy atmosphere of the "leading juveniles" - . Was he having trouble with the color, verve, vitality of it? (Better when his plays are somber - Le Malentendu.) I don't know. He liked it and I like it. My heart is with Camus. Thought is going to publish "Three Saviors." |
