There is no extant correspondence between Merton and John Lewis. The file contains a reference Lewis makes to Merton's Seeds of Destruction in a February 1965 meeting of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).
John Lewis is a current member of the U.S. Congress and a leader during the Civil Rights Movement for African Americans. He was chairperson of SNCC from 1963-1966.
